TextNow announced that it had surpassed $1 billion in cumulative revenue, an extraordinary achievement for a company that has charted its own path to growth. Founded in Waterloo in 2009, TextNow has grown largely without outside investment, building its business through product adoption, customer loyalty and a commitment to doing things differently.
Earlier this month, TextNow brought employees, community leaders and members of Waterloo’s tech community together at the David Johnston Research + Technology Park during Waterloo Tech Week to celebrate the milestone and unveil a permanent public sculpture.
The installation recognizes not only how far TextNow has come, but also the people, ideas and innovation ecosystem that have been part of its journey. It now stands as a lasting reminder of what can be built in Waterloo and an invitation to the next generation of founders to think differently about what success can look like.
TextNow’s story demonstrates that there isn’t a single playbook for building a successful technology company. Sometimes, doing things differently can be the path to something remarkable.
Congratulations to the entire TextNow team on an incredible achievement and an exciting next chapter.
