The David Johnston Research + Technology Park is thrilled to share that two of our anchor tenants, Stantec and OpenText, have been named amongst the Top 10 companies on TIME and Statista’s list of Canada’s Best Companies in 2025. It’s a recognition of their incredible impact on the national and international stage and a we’re so proud that these world-class organizations call R+T Park and the University of Waterloo their home.

Stantec, a global leader in sustainable engineering, architecture, and environmental consulting, joined R+T Park as a tenant in 2015, but have been a part of the Park’s development journey since the beginning, having done much of the site planning and readiness work, and more recently designing the award-winning evolv1 zero-carbon building developed by The Cora Group.
OpenText began as a University of Waterloo research project that developed technology to index the Oxford English Dictionary and has grown into one of the largest software companies in Canada and is a global leader in information management systems. The company relocated their global headquarters to R+T Park in 2006.
The TIME list recognizes excellence in operations across a variety of factors, including sustainability transparency, positive employee reviews, and continuous revenue growth in the last three years. It no surprise to see two of R+T Park’s most significant tenants leading the country in these key areas.
And they’re in good company! Five other Waterloo headquartered companies – ATS Corporation, Economical Insurance, D2L, BlackBerry and Sun Life – also made the list, and 10% of the Top 125 companies have presence in Waterloo. The continues to highlight the region’s leadership in innovation and business excellence and earning well-deserved recognition among the top 125 companies.
So why do these companies choose Waterloo and R+T Park?
