From Fairway to Conestoga: Recommended LRT stop names revealed

One more piece of the puzzle that is Waterloo Region’s Ion light rail transit system has fallen into place.

A list of recommended names for the system’s 19 stops was made public Friday.

According to a report from the region’s transportation development, the names were designed to be short, descriptive and named after nearby landmarks when possible.

The recommended names, which must still be approved by regional councillors, are as follows (locations in brackets):

  • Conestoga (at Conestoga Mall)
  • Northfield (Northfield Drive near Highway 85)
  • Research and Technology (at the David Johnston Research & Technology Park)
  • University of Waterloo (at the University of Waterloo)
  • Laurier – Waterloo Park (Seagram Drive)
  • Willis Way (Willis Way, single-direction only)
  • Waterloo Public Square (at Waterloo Town Square, single-direction only)
  • Allen (at King and Allen streets)
  • Grand River Hospital (at Grand River Hospital)
  • King Central (at King and Victoria streets)
  • Victoria Park (at Charles and Gaukel streets, single-direction only)
  • Queen (at Charles and Benton streets, single-direction only)
  • Kitchener City Hall (at Duke and Young streets, single-direction only)
  • Frederick (at King and Frederick streets, single-direction only)
  • Kitchener Market (at Charles and Cedar streets)
  • Borden (Borden Avenue near Charles Street)
  • Mill (Mill Street near Ottawa Street)
  • Block Line (Block Line Road west of Courtland Avenue)
  • Fairway (Fairview Park Mall)
